Since early September 2026, Google Search Console shows you in black and white how often AI answers display your site. And you can now simply refuse to appear in them.
Google tested the feature for months with a limited group of users. It is now open worldwide to everyone with a Search Console account. Two things change at once: you get visibility into your AI performance, and you get control over whether you want to appear there at all.
What the new AI report shows
The new AI performance report shows impressions, pages, countries, devices and dates for AI Overviews and AI Mode in Google Search. Click data is not included: Google shows how often you appear, but not how many visitors that actually delivers. For smaller businesses that until now only tracked classic Google rankings, this closes a blind spot. Large brands have been testing this kind of reporting for months, smaller players simply had no access to the tool.
In practice, this means you can now check within a few clicks whether your content already shows up in AI Overviews, and in which countries. If you see zero impressions while competitors do show up, you know exactly where the problem sits: not classic SEO, but whether your content is readable and citable for AI models.
For the first time, you know in black and white whether AI search engines show your brand, or whether you simply do not exist for them.
The button to opt out of AI
Alongside the report, Search Console now also has a toggle that lets you block your content entirely from AI Overviews, AI Mode and AI Overviews in Discover. Choose that option and you disappear from those features, while your regular search results stay untouched. So it is not a ranking factor, it is a strategic choice you make yourself. For most of our marketing clients, opting out is not really an option: visibility in AI answers is quickly becoming as important as a page one ranking. We explain how to build that visibility in our article on how AI search engines decide whether your brand gets found. We discuss what that means for your content strategy every week on our LinkedIn page.
Conclusion
The guesswork is over. You can now measure whether AI search engines show your content, and decide for yourself whether you want to play along. Ignore that number and you are still steering your content strategy blind: see what we can do for you.
